Salt Lick & the race tracks

One of my longtime BFF's Shannyn of Four Carat's and my new found blogger buddy Michelle of Quinnette a native Texan both recommended that I absolutely must try Salt Lick during my stay in Texas.

It was actually a bit of a hike from San Antonio about a one and a half hour drive.

Was it worth it?

HELLS TO THE YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

When I walked in my reaction was "OHH SHIZZZ"

Brisket, Pork Ribs, Sausage, Potato Salad, Beans, Pickles, Onions and Bread

We got the all your could eat family option.  Don't judge ok.. the drive was 1.5 hrs! hahahahaha

THE RIBS WERE CRAZZZZZY GOOD!  After we finished the initial plate we asked for another plate of JUST RIBS ONLY.

AND THEN when we were totally stuffed out of our mind I asked the girl if I could place an order of ribs as a to go order.

AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.  WHAT? it was 1.5 hrs away and I knew I was going to want to eat some the day after.  The super sweet waitress actually just took our refill plate and gave us an order of ribs for free.  SO FREAKIN' AWESOME.

Half and half - peach and blackberry cobbler w/ ice cream

This was so nommy hot peach & blackberry cobbler w/ ice cold vanilla ice cream was SOOO good.. I PROBABLY shouldn't have ordered this after we just had a ton of meat but it was SO GOOD.  Plus you can feel better about it because it's fruit.  Granted it's fruit with a ton of sugar... but when my mom calls I can honestly tell her I ate some fruit today HAHA.

While we were driving home the hubs was getting really sleepy hahaha.. I don't think the food helped and we happened to pass by a race tracks and the hubs said let's go check it out!!  The hubs has been to the race tracks a couple of times but it was a first for me and I'm always game to seeing new things!

I LOVED THIS HORSE!!! SO PRETTY!

We decided to make a bet each.  HAHA $1 bet.. we're so baller.

After we made our bets the hubs went to look for the booklet that shows what the horses are called and their stats.  This was hilarious because we totally did not see this or know what the horses names were until AFTER we placed our bets.  On the way back from getting a booklet the hubs had already looked up my horse's name and was basically clutching his stomach as he was walking back to our table.

Me: What's so funny?
The hubs:  Guess what's the name of your #6 horse?
Me: What?
The hubs: HIGH CLASS JET
Me: SHUTUP!

BAHAHAHAHAHA.

Funny right?  It's like I knew that the horse was meant for me.

Sadly neither of our horses even placed during the race hahah but it was definitely a fun and interesting experience!

Total side note but I had to post the B-day gift my friend Wei-Wei sent me from San Francisco she picked up these things on her recent trip back to Taiwan!

Thanks so much Wei!!! You know me so well haha I've been dying to try B.B. Cream and omgosh the Kate eyeshadow colors are SO PRETTY!

It was Wei-Wei that actually turned me on to Kate brand eye shadow.. it's a Japanese brand that they sell at all the drugstores in Taiwan and I'm assuming it's probably all over the rest of Asia but it's an uber affordable line (If I'm not mistaken Kanebo is the parent company) the eyeshadow colors are SUPER pigmented and goes on really well and has a teeny hint of shimmer which I love!  I picked up a few when I was in Taipei last year but If you're in Asia or planning on visiting definitely seek out this brand of eyeshadows at your nearest drugstore!

  14. I am soooooooo glad you made it out there and chose the family option - the ONLY way to go. It truly is so so SOOO good. Best BBQ in TX in my humble opinion (except maybe Franklin BBQ but who has the time for that?!) ♥

  15. OH EM GEE... look at that pit... that's impressive. And all the meat looks super good! It's hilarious that you asked for ribs to go after eating all that food! That's totally something my husband would do! hahahaha.

I've never been to a track before, mostly because I hate being in the sun, and the heat and the dust make me cranky. But I do like horses. Unicorns are better when I can find them, but they'll do. :)

That's funny about the horse that you picked! It's like you have some kind of psychic link or something! hahaha.

  45. Is it wrong that the only reason why I want to go to the south is solely based on eating "real" ribs?

I love going to the track even though my husband and I went once at Golden Gate Fields 4yrs ago. And I did win that bet - a whopping $20! Yeah, I'm a baller, too!
