La Folie, Marc Jacobs & Judith Leiber

Celebrating our 5th Valentine's together!

kushi oysters w/ compressed apples, horseradish cream and apple-champagne gelee

Isn't the hubs adorable?  He chose to wear pink just for Valentines! hehehe.

parsnip soup w/ cripsy sweatbreads and truffled beignets

crispy sweatbreads

terrine of salmon, lobster, scallops and artichokes

mushroom and lobster risotto

creekstone beef tenderloin, braised beef shortrib and burger rossini with bordelaise

slow cooked butterfish w/ salsify truffles and jus de poulet

molton valhrona chocolate bread pudding w/ passionfruit sabayon and rasberry sorbet

The chocolate bread pudding was AMAZING.. it's like the best molton chocolate lava cake meets the most awesome bread pudding you've ever had in your life.  I've never tasted anything like it.

The rest of the dinner however was pretty awful.  It started off really badly, both the hostess AND our waitress were extremely rude.  What gives?!  I realize it's Valentines and you guys are busy but there's no need to be rude to patrons of your (extremely overpriced) establishment.  Also the food didn't seem that fresh and the flavors were all underwhelming.  *sigh*

La Folie received 4 and a half stars out of 536 Yelp reviews. What the effffff.

You have failed me Yelp.

Anyways

I just wanted to get home to open my Valentine's presssiessss!

It actually smells pretty good.  The hubs has never bought me perfume before mostly because I have fairly sensitive skin and kind of allergic to most scented things.  This one smells pretty good and even if I don't use it looks really pretty on my vanity haha.

Haha I put it on Napoleon, it looks like a flower lei!!  It was destoyed in 2.32234653 seconds.

OOH EMM GEE.  JUDITH LEIBER.

Tricked ya!

Well if it's any consolation the hubs got me REAL GOOD.  When I saw the Judith Leiber box I was seriously petrified there was going to be a big ugly bird clutch staring back at me.  Remember the one SJP gets from Big in Sex in the City?  Yeaaaah. *Cringe* YOU know the one.  The hubs said my face was priceless.. his exact words were "You were trying to smile really hard while simultaneously swallowing your disappointment."  HAHAHA.

So when I opened the Leiber box and saw the the word Chanel I actually started shaking from relief/excitement.  I was so excited I jumped up and ran around my apartment, not once, but twice before I even came back to opening the Chanel box. LOL.

Stay tuned I'm going to be revealing my Chanel V-day pressie TOMORROW!  (I have a small family of Chanel babies.. and this is by far my FAV Chanel baby to date surpassing my Sparkle & Glitter flap!)

  4. The food looks delicious but I'm sorry the staff were so terrible! You should write a review on Yelp! That's no fun, especially when you're paying a lot of money for a good meal!

Enjoy your gifts! I love that perfume.

  12. I'm so sorry to hear that your diner was so underwhelming! Going from their prices, La Folie should provide the freshest food possible AND friendly staff (even if they're busy - that's totally no excuse, ITA!).
The Daisy perfume bottle looks uber cute :-)
Can't wait to see what's inside your chanel box - don't keep me waiting too long *lol*

  24. so much to say about this post!

the food looks really good. do you think they were just off their game because it was v-day? i know a lot of restaurants suck big time during v-day because they can never handle the pressure and volume.

i love daisy!! have you smelled the new daisy? it's so summery and fresh! might have to add that to my collection. the classic mj is definitely my fav.

that's hilarious about the judy leiber box. damn, your hubby really knows fashion if he knows that jl will scare the sh** out of you. what a great hubby!

    cheers,

  34. Ahhh! I can't wait to find out what's inside that box!! Your hubby's very creative! Also, your doggy is so cute :)

I think that even though you have the black jumbo GHW, you can still get the black reissue GHW just because it's a completely different size and texture and you'll end up using it for different occasions! xx\

  35. That sneaky love of yours!! One time my hubby tricked me at Christmas and put a pair of shoes that I wanted inside of a new garbage can. I cried when I opened the big box that contained, of all things, a garbage can. Who wants that for Christmas. Alas, it was all part of his plan. HA.

Looks like a fabulous Vday and wonderful FOOD!

  37. Thanks for sharing the La Folie pics. A bunch of us are turning 40 this year and want to visit the Bay Area. We were targeting French Laundry until we heard how IMPOSSIBLE it is to get a reso. La Folie is on our radar as an alternate. My ex is a chef and I've heard how terrible V-day is for the resto industry, a case of "damned if you do, damned if you don't" It's really hard to provide the usual level of ambiance and service on a super busy night, when customer expectations are heightened.

Anyway...just wanna say how well does your hubs know you! Packaging your gift up like that! You're a lucky girl :)

  45. despite their awful service, i hope you guys had a great time.
ps. the dollhouses in the museum were displayed in scotland but i believe they were made in england. :D

  46. Thanx for all your comments. I must say i was pretty bowled over by the food pictures! But then I read about how blah they were except for the desserts. Plus I would not accept bad service in a fine dining restaurant. It’s V-day come on, they’re supposed to make all the couples feel special. Nonetheless, hope you had a great time with the hubz!
